The midwife behind Baby Steps
Hello, I’m Georgia
I’ve been an NHS midwife for over 10 years, working across three NHS trusts.
I’ve had the privilege of caring for families during homebirths, on the midwife-led unit, on a busy labour ward and working on the antenatal and postnatal wards.
Nine years of busy Bristol later, my family and I have swapped city life for rural Somerset — the two of us, a beautiful cocker spaniel, and a toddler with no off switch. Most of my days off happen outdoors, and most of them end in mud.

How Baby Steps started
I kept asking: how is this not known more widely?
I know the biology of labour, and I know the NHS system and its guidelines. What hypnobirthing gave me was the whole holistic picture — and seeing women take an active role in their pregnancy and their labour changed how they experienced it, for the better.
I was so amazed that I wanted everyone to know about it. How is this not known more widely? So many times I’d seen partners who didn’t have a clue what was going on, really stressed and anxious watching the person they love go through labour, and not realising how important they are. I started Baby Steps in 2020 to get the word out, and to give partners the confidence to be an active part of the birth. Their journey to parenthood starts then too.
When it was my turn, I used it all myself for my own home birth. Understanding what my body was doing, and having the breathing to come back to, quietened a lot of worries I hadn’t expected to have.
How I teach
Real-life education, not rose-tinted glasses
I give real-life education, not birth prep through rose-tinted glasses. Everything I teach is evidence-based and up to date with current clinical guidelines, with the biology of labour at the centre.
I keep it fun, sociable and bite-size, with plenty of real stories from the birth space.
